Men of Renown – Part iii – Beyond Korah and Company

Men of Renown

Part iii

Beyond Korah and Company

There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown. (Genesis 6:4) And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. (Genesis 6:5)

Now Korah, the son of Izhar, the son of Kohath, the son of Levi, and Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab, and On, the son of Peleth, sons of Reuben, took men: (Numbers 16:1) And they rose up before Moses, with certain of the children of Israel, two hundred and fifty princes of the assembly, famous in the congregation, men of renown: (Numbers 16:2)

This series called Men of Renown will begin with these verses in Chapter 6 of the book of Genesis because it is the perfect scene setter for whatever and whoever follows. Genesis 6 verses 4 and 5 are an accurate definition of men of renown.

The phrase ‘men of renown’ occurs in the Bible only two times. The second and last mention can be found in the 4th book of the Pentateuch in the book of Numbers, Chapter 16. This last mention of ‘men of renown’ goes beyond the definition of men of renown and expands what ‘men of renown’ are not only capable of, but what lurks in the inner most recesses of their thoughts.

Beyond Korah and Company

The Birth and Growth of Rebellion

I suggest that you do not begin with this article Part iii, but first read Parts i, and ii. Assuming that you have already done this, I will continue on with a simple summary of how rebellion grows. The people of Numbers Chapter 16 did not, of course, have the great information sources that we have of our day. (That sentence is sarcasm because they had Moses and the glory of God appeared to them many ways.) Truth and verification of truth were not conditioned on the approval of truth by those who acquire their ‘special selected truth of the day’ through the unseen wires of the internet profiteers. No, they (the people of Numbers Chapter 16) did not have instant ‘truth’ beamed into their tents. They had to rely on their senses. You know . . . ‘the senses’ of sight and sound: their eyes and their ears. You know . . . those senses, remember . . . those senses. And they also had ‘a sense’ that is not considered by experts to be ‘a sense,’ and that is ‘common sense.’ Then there was another ‘sense’ that many of those in Israel in the wilderness did not rely on, and that was ‘godly sense.’ Not using ‘the senses’ is how rebellion grows. Oops, I almost forget to mention another unrecognized ‘sense,’ and that is ‘the mind.’ They (as well as we today) would have done well to remember what God had accomplished for them. You see, when sound and sight is processed through the mind and is analyzed and compartmentalized to form a conclusion of common sense without ‘godly sense’ then there can only be one result: no sense at all. Without God being the Center and Former of all thought and understanding, then mankind is deaf, blind, spiritually dead and stupid all at the same time. (I know for I have been all of these things in my life before God became the Center and Former of my new being in Christ Jesus.)

Side Note: The Physical and Spiritual Condition of the Common Man

Hear, ye deaf; and look, ye blind, that ye may see. (Isaiah 42:18)

Seeing many things, but thou observest not; opening the ears, but he heareth not. (Isaiah 42:20)

Son of man, thou dwellest in the midst of a rebellious house, which have eyes to see, and see not; they have ears to hear, and hear not: for they are a rebellious house. (Ezekiel 12:2)

Hear now this, O foolish people, and without understanding; which have eyes, and see not; which have ears, and hear not: (Jeremiah 5:21)

Although the ‘common man’ has been artistically and musically lauded over the ages to celebrate the spirit of determination against great adversarial odds, almost all see the ‘common man’ through the eyes of ‘uncommon men.’ I am thinking of Aaron Copeland’s musical masterpiece called ‘Fanfare for the Common Man,’

God did not create man to be ‘common.’ He created man to be ‘uncommon.’

and it is almost inhuman to even suggest that the ‘common man’ is not worthy to receive such praise and adulation. You see, I was one of many who stood before students teaching the glory within the ‘common man’ through his architecture, his art, his music, his literature, and his military historical endeavors and conquests. That was before I understood that God is a Jealous God, and glory alone belongs to Him. God did not create man to be ‘common.’ He created man to be ‘uncommon.’ Man was created in the image of God.

At Adam’s creation, man (in Adam) was very special, one of a kind, uniquely created for a uniquely created environment to sustain a creature able to walk with, talk with, and communicate with The God of the Universe. I would say that this man (Adam) was not a common man at his creation. Adam was highly intelligent, (IQ levels outside of the range of charts that would make MENSA members appear as simpletons) a perfect physical specimen, a product of perfect neurological wiring, able to categorize the animal kingdom, to reason at the ultimate level, and he could love another creature outside of his own existence; however, Adam was deliberately created by God below the status of the Realm of the Created Angels. He was not created at the same physical level of the Angels, in strength, endurance, status, position or purpose. Adam was created with something that the Angels were not created with: the capability to die. Adam (at creation) WAS as an ‘uncommon man,’ but he became a ‘common man’ when he willingly and unhesitatingly rebelled against his Creator and erroneously believed that ye shall be as gods encouraged by the lying words, Ye shall not surely die.

There it is, the creation and fall of man summarized simply in one paragraph. But I did leave out a few basic principles: God had given His prime dust-to-human masterpiece a command: obey and live, disobey and die. Before Adam fell from his position of the ‘uncommon man’ to ‘common man’ he was also presented with two realm shattering concepts: good and evil. But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die. (Genesis 2:17) Adam already knew ‘good’ for he knew the goodness of God in his own creation, His care, and in His revealing of His glory and His image to Adam. It is no light thing to know good, but to have the knowledge of evil one must experience evil itself. Ah . . . “I, there’s the rub.”

The man of our original blood line (Adam) was presented with life eternal or the knowledge of good and evil, and guess, go ahead and guess, c’mon guess, what was man drawn to? Yup, you got it right. And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food;  the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil. (Genesis 2:9)

And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:(Genesis 2:16) But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die. (Genesis 2:17)

And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of  the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever: (Genesis 3:22)

The Almighty Creator offered Adam eternal life or death, and guess what Adam was drawn to. Now don’t be too hard on our father Adam, because millions over thousands of years have done the same thing. They loved the knowledge of evil. Don’t you dare judge God. He has from the very beginning offered life eternal to man, so much so that He cloaked His glory and came to earth in the manifestation of His Son Jesus Christ and offered Himself on the tree of death (the cross of Calvary) to give life to all.

See, I have set before thee this day life and good, and death and evil; (Deuteronomy 30:15)

I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, [that] I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live: (Deuteronomy 30:19)

Behold, I set before you this day a blessing and a curse; (Deuteronomy 11:26) A blessing, if ye obey the commandments of the LORD your God, which I command you this day: (Deuteronomy 11:27)

God sees the ‘common man’ as deaf, blind, rebellious, foolish, and without understanding. Let me rephrase this: God sees the unrepentant sinner as deaf, blind, rebellious, foolish and without understanding. Yes, after Adam’s loss (excuse me, it wasn’t a loss as much as it was Adam’s refusal of God’s goodness) he was changed from a unique and uncommon creation to a deaf, blind, rebellious, foolish, spiritually dead, and soon to be physically dead forefather and root of the first dust-to-human creation of a new race called mankind. So . . . therefore, boys and girls (another WOW from me — ‘boys and girls’— scientifically XY and XX —what heresy to say ‘boys and girls’) . . . that is where we came from.

We (through Adam) were once unique, special and uncommon. How the mighty has fallen. Now, we are encouraged to be neither a ‘common man,’ nor an ‘uncommon man,’ but to be beast like, and consequently being beast like we will be more suited to worship the man of sin called the Beast. Mankind has been primed and prepared to accept without question to fit into a beast-like world environment of thoughtlessness and actions suitable for the new world order: the Age of the Beast.

And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. (Revelation 13:17) Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number [is] Six hundred threescore [and] six. (Revelation 13:18)

How did we get from Numbers Chapter 16 to this point? Easy . . . I pulled on a thread . . . to show that the rebel Israelites in Numbers Chapter 16 hated God and God’s order. Not all who escaped from Egypt walked into the land of promise, only two men (Caleb and Joshua) lived to see the land of God’s promise. We got here because I used these words The Birth and Growth of Rebellion.

The Side Note was to show you the birth of rebellion came through the first man of the race of man: Adam. Also, in the Side Note I hope that you saw that rebellion grows because of the spiritual condition of man. Man is all these things: deaf, blind, rebellious, foolish, and without understanding. To add to your understanding of what actually occurred in Numbers Chapter 16, I have selected certain verses. (It’s alright . . . I am not taking anything out of context. I don’t see the problem with selecting certain verses, as every evening most of you listen and believe selected news without questioning their unabashed biased selections.) Now let’s follow the bold print . . .

And they rose up before Moses, with certain of the children of Israel, two hundred and fifty princes of the assembly, famous in the congregation, men of renown: (Numbers 16:2) And they gathered themselves together against Moses and against Aaron, and said unto them, Ye take too much upon you, seeing all the congregation are holy, every one of them, and the LORD is among them: wherefore then lift ye up yourselves above the congregation of the LORD? (Numbers 16:3)

And he hath brought thee near to him, and all thy brethren the sons of Levi with thee: and seek ye the priesthood also? (Numbers 16:10) For which cause both thou and all thy company are gathered together against the LORD: and what is Aaron, that ye murmur against him? (Numbers 16:11)

And Korah gathered all the congregation against them unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation: and the glory of the LORD appeared unto all the congregation. (Numbers 16:19)

But on the morrow all the congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron, saying, Ye have killed the people of the LORD. (Numbers 16:41) And it came to pass, when the congregation was gathered against Moses and against Aaron, that they looked toward the tabernacle of the congregation: and, behold, the cloud covered it, and the glory of the LORD appeared. (Numbers 16:42)

Since we (those of us in the United States) are living in an actual rebellion directed by men of renown against the elected President Trump, how rebellions grow and are sustained should be of interest to all of us. It is relatively easy to comprehend how a strong individual can influence three others, and then two hundred and fifty others, and then through their lies, power, and authority these men of renown can impact facts, evidence and above all they can control how this information is contained and changed to affect the hearts and minds of their listeners to believe lies.

Let us look at some of the lies of the Israelites. It is very close to the constant lies that have been bombarding this nation these last four years on an hourly basis from our righteous and honorable men and women of journalistic sainthood.

What Was Said, Seen and Heard

And they gathered themselves together against Moses and against Aaron, and said unto them, Ye take too much upon you, seeing all the congregation are holy, every one of them, and the LORD is among them: wherefore then lift ye up yourselves above the congregation of the LORD? (Numbers 16:3)

Their first lie was that all the congregation are holy, every one of them. Sure, of course, they were all holy, every one of them. Since when have envy, jealousy, and contention been considered holy? Here is another delusion, and the LORD is among them, their lies went beyond reality. Then they accused Moses and Aaron of what the rebels themselves desired and acted on . . . we could call this gaslighting. They accused their two leaders of what they themselves were actually doing, lifting themselves above the congregation of the LORD. Notice one other thing, they did not really believe that this congregation belonged to the Lord, for if they believed their own statement then would not, and could not, God act in the maintenance of His proper order of HIS congregation? God had acted previously in judgment against Nadab and Abihu when they brought strange fire in their sensors. Now suddenly, these rebels and men of renown are the sole protectors of God’s domain?

The stage lighting is being set for the actors in this rebellious coup attempt against Moses and Aaron. The rebels set themselves as in the right. These rebels set themselves as in the majority, and at the beginning of this movement they were only two hundred and fifty-four defiers.

Is it a small thing that thou hast brought us up out of a land that floweth with milk and honey, to kill us in the wilderness, except thou make thyself altogether a prince over us? (Numbers 16:13) We see that these men of renown had another problem. They had a memory problem. Of course, they must need a repressed memory counselor, they suddenly remembered Egypt as a land that flowed with milk and honey, and it was, but not for slaves! Then they also forgot that it was God who led them out of Egypt, and it was God who kept their feet dry when they crossed the Red Sea, and it was God who was sustaining them in the wilderness. They left out the fact that they had been slaves of Egypt for more than four hundred years. They also left out the fact that they were not even being paid minimum wages.

Moreover thou hast not brought us into a land that floweth with milk and honey, or given us inheritance of fields and vineyards: wilt thou put out the eyes of these men? we will not come up. (Numbers 16:14) When Moses per God’s command asked these rebels to come to speak with him and with Aaron, they refused. Ah . . . another memory problem. God led them to the very border of the land that He had promised them, but they refused to enter. I want to develop this phrase we will not come up. They refused to present their alleged grievances because they had absolutely no basis for them. We will not come up. It wasn’t an upward movement as in where they were going, but it can also be seen as a refusal to spiritually move in God’s direction.

When God led them to the border of the land that He had promised them, the entire congregation (except for Caleb, Joshua, Moses and Aaron) refused to step into this land of promise — in essence they said to God that We will not come up to what you have promised. (Read Numbers Chapter 13 and 14.) We will not come up to receive blessings and the goodness of God. Your iniquities have turned away these things, and your sins have withholden good things from you. (Jeremiah 5:25) It is easy to read about revolters and rebellious hearts of men and women of ages past, but it is another to accept that their actions are the same actions of the rebellious hearts of men and women of THIS age. Have you not heard it said that We will not come up to God’s Savior and Jesus Christ the Messiah? We will not come up to God’s standard of salvation. We will not come up because we like it down here in the pigsty. God had better things for these Israelites, and their sins caused them to wander for forty years in the wilderness of Sin. God has better things for you, but Your iniquities have turned away these things, and your sins have withholden good things from you.

But on the morrow all the congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron, saying, Ye have killed the people of the LORD. (Numbers 16:41) A lot of things happened in this Chapter before verse 41. The earth opened at God’s command and the instigators of this attempted coup against Moses and Aaron were swallowed up. Wow . . . Hollywood could really work this event into quite an epic block buster with the roaring, crackling sounds coming from beneath the feet of the rebels, then the screams from those frantically stomping over each other trying to move away from the edge of this great gaping grasping hole in the earth. Read the following and after reading, tell me one thing . . . if you had heard this, and had seen this with your very own eyes would you have ever forgotten it? I don’t think so, you would be having nightmares for the rest of your life. Your ears would always hear the screams of those who were swept quickly into that abyss. Your eyes would always have the images of bodies being vacuumed in seconds downward and then just as quickly the earth closed over them. (In Florida we are very familiar with sink holes where cars, and even homes, cave into dry aquifer holes in the earth, but mostly it is a slow and unstoppable process that may take days or even weeks.) This earth-shattering event in Numbers Chapter 16 should be a reading requirement. Read with the sound adjusted to your ears, see with the screen of your eyes adjusted to reality.

And the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying, (Numbers 16:20)

Separate yourselves from among this congregation, that I may consume them in a moment. (Numbers 16:21)

And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, (Numbers 16:23) Speak unto the congregation, saying, Get you up from about the tabernacle of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram. (Numbers 16:24)

And Moses rose up and went unto Dathan and Abiram; and the elders of Israel followed him. (Numbers 16:25)

And he spake unto the congregation, saying, Depart, I pray you, from the tents of these wicked men, and touch nothing of theirs, lest ye be consumed in all their sins. (Numbers 16:26)

So they gat up from the tabernacle of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram, on every side: and Dathan and Abiram came out, and stood in the door of their tents, and their wives, and their sons, and their little children. (Numbers 16:27)

And Moses said, Hereby ye shall know that the LORD hath sent me to do all these works; for I have not done them of mine own mind. (Numbers 16:28)

But if the LORD make a new thing, and the earth open her mouth, and swallow them up, with all that appertain unto them, and they go down quick into the pit; then ye shall understand that these men have provoked the LORD. (Numbers 16:30)

And it came to pass, as he had made an end of speaking all these words, that the ground clave asunder that was under them: (Numbers 16:31)

And the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed them up, and their houses, and all the men that appertained unto Korah, and all their goods. (Numbers 16:32)

They, and all that appertained to them, went down alive into the pit, and the earth closed upon them: and they perished from among the congregation. (Numbers 16:33)

And all Israel that were round about them fled at the cry of them: for they said, Lest the earth swallow us up also. (Numbers 16:34)

Tell me truthfully, the next day after seeing, and hearing, and experiencing this traumatic event, what would you have done, what would you have said?

But on the morrow all the congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron, saying, Ye have killed the people of the LORD.  (Numbers 16:41) This is one of the many reasons that you can believe that the Bible was written by God through His Holy Spirit, and transcribed by the pen of ready writers. How am I assured that this is God’s book? Because God never lies about mankind. (I know, I know that you can’t begin an independent clause with a subordinating conjunction as ‘because,’ but I did and so what?) Numbers Chapter 16, verse 41 is an indictment against mankind. Mankind (as a whole) has a hearing and seeing problem, and do not forget they also have a sieve for a memory. Son of man, thou dwellest in the midst of a rebellious house, which have eyes to see, and see not; they have ears to hear, and hear not: for they are a rebellious house. (Ezekiel 12:2) Hear now this, O foolish people, and without understanding; which have eyes, and see not; which have ears, and hear not: (Jeremiah 5:21)

Ye have killed the people of the LORD. Sure . . . right . . . of course, it had to be Moses and Aaron who caused it all, the earth opening up, the rebels being swept away into the caverns in the earth, and the earth quickly closing up over all of this. Sure sounds like a paid for pretend journalist putting his biased twist onto ‘what really happened.’ Look over there . . . (away from the truth) . . . a squirrel! Look over there . . . (away from the truth) . . . it wasn’t God! Look over there (away from the actual evidence) and see only those bad, bad men, because it had to be Moses and Aaron who caused the earth to open. It was Aaron and Moses who killed the people of the LORD. (Seeing without seeing and hearing without hearing, but willingly allowing others to convince you that your eyes and your ears no longer work correctly.) The defiers refused to see that it was God’s hand in judgment. Many cannot see God’s hand in judgment in our age as well. Also notice that they were not able to distinguish between the people of the Lord and the rebels. This inability to discern right from wrong, and good from evil is a tragic weakness in mankind called sin. The people of the Lord have been slaughtered by the thousands throughout the history of mankind not because their murderers and assassins lacked discernment, nor because they lacked the knowledge of God and of His Christ, but that they were evil and of their father the devil.

There are many scriptural differences between Israel and the Church, but . . . there are no differences between sinners. Sinners then are no different from sinners now. (Israelite sinners or Gentile sinners are sinners nevertheless.) The rebels had done their work well in convincing the people of the congregation that they were the ones who were of God, and that Moses and Aaron were not men of God. Blind, deaf, foolish, without understanding, and discernment was not a strong point with these people. Nothing has changed in six thousand years, or even five thousand years, or four thousand years: mankind remains the same as at his beginning with Adam, still blind, deaf, foolish, without understanding, always a rebel, and haters of God. And you believe in the evolution of man upward . . . hahahahahahahahahhah. Well, I don’t believe in the theory of evolution, but I will give you this, maybe there is a process of evolution DOWNWARD. Every time I venture out, I see more evidence of this downward movement of humanity in appearance (or lack thereof) and in vocabulary usage (or lack thereof).

Where do we go from this point in time in Numbers Chapter 16, verse 41? But on the morrow all the congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron, saying, Ye have killed the people of the LORD. God was not going to tolerate this much longer. In fact, He didn’t tolerate Korah, nor Dathan and Abiram, they, and every thing that belonged to them perished.

God’s government is not built on democracy, nor representation, God’s government is built on one issue: GOD IS SOVEREIGN.

(For another time, and maybe another article, we will see why not all of the tribe of Korah perished, and why.) But, forward and onward, or is it backward . . . back to Numbers Chapter 16, verse 35, And there came out a fire from the LORD, and consumed the two hundred and fifty men that offered incense. Hiding from the judgment of God because of the numbers in agreement is not a very wise idea. God’s government is not built on democracy, nor representation, God’s government is built on one issue: GOD IS SOVEREIGN. It’s His field, it’s His ball, it’s His bat, it’s His game, it’s His rules, and it is even His scoreboard. You have only been invited to play, and even to select the team you want to play on, but it does not belong to you, you own nothing.

[Though] hand [join] in hand, the wicked shall not be unpunished:  but the seed of the righteous shall be delivered. (Proverbs 11:21) Every one [that is] proud in heart [is] an abomination to the LORD: [though] hand [join] in hand, he shall not be unpunished.  Proverbs 16:5)

God sure stopped this uprising quickly. Finally, it’s over. Not so fast. But on the morrow all the congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron, saying, Ye have killed the people of the LORD. (Numbers 16:41) It never seems to end, does it? Take heart. Wherever you are in the course of the evil of the men of renown (whether they are shadow government leaders or shadow religious leaders) God does act, and will act, and no evil will go unpunished either in this world, or in the world to come. Because we live in a frame of time we desire that all evil be put down in our time frame, but remember, it is God’s time frame that matters. His promises of judgment to come are as settled as His promises of life eternal.

For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise. (Hebrew 10:36)

The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. (2nd Peter 3:9)

Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness. (2nd Peter 3:13)

The lessons we take from the Old Testament are to give us strength, hope, and understanding for our daily trials and discouragements. Evil will be put down, and righteousness will reign, but in God’s time, and at God’s doing. His judgments in the Old Testament may have come quickly, as quickly as a strike of lightning, but for us in the New Testament the timing of God’s judgment is not the issue at hand: it is to understand that His delay of judgment has a purpose. God’s purposes are beyond our own purposes. The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. (2nd Peter 3:9) His promises are not all goodness and light, but His promises are also of judgment to come.

It is not the timing of God’s judgment in Numbers Chapter 16 that should draw our focus, but it is that He judges. For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil. (Ecclesiastes 12:14) For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad. (2nd Corinthians 5:10)

Whether anyone stands as an individual or in the majority as a rebel (or haters) against God and His divine order and government, God’s judgment is sure. Delusions that victory or even survival comes through might or number is a weakness within the minds of mankind. Have any of you been in a group where it was said, ‘How can she do anything about it if we ALL agree against it? She can’t punish all of us.’ From experience, as a teacher, a few students made this error in judgment against me. There is no safety in numbers!

But on the morrow all the congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron, saying, Ye have killed the people of the LORD. (Numbers 16:41)

And it came to pass, when the congregation was gathered against Moses and against Aaron, that they looked toward the tabernacle of the congregation: and, behold, the cloud covered it, and the glory of the LORD appeared. (Numbers 16:42)

The glory of the LORD appeared — it was His time to show His power against thousands of rebels instantaneously. They would ALL suffer the consequences of their actions against their Creator with the same judgment, and at the same time.

And Moses and Aaron came before the tabernacle of the congregation. (Numbers 16:43) And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, (Numbers 16:44) Get you up from among this congregation, that I may consume them as in a moment. And they fell upon their faces. (Numbers 16:45)

Notice some key elements in God’s judgment: Aaron (high priest), censer, fire from off the altar, incense, atonement, and wrath.

And Moses said unto Aaron,  Take a censer, and put fire therein from off the altar, and put on incense, and go quickly unto the congregation, and make an atonement for them: for there is wrath gone out from the LORD; the plague is begun. (Numbers 16:46)

And Aaron took as Moses commanded, and ran into the midst of the congregation; and, behold, the plague was begun among the people: and he put on incense, and made an atonement for the people.  (Numbers 16:47)

And he stood between the dead and the living; and the plague was stayed. (Numbers 16:48)

Wasn’t it ironic that the position and person that the rebels attempted to destroy was the one to save them? When the plague struck, the only hope for the people came through the priesthood and the priest who they despised. The priesthood was not a new truth, but here we see another phase of the high priest. Types in the Old Testament not only depict truths in the New Testament, but they sometimes show us greater depths into the heart of God.

This is where this article will close out; however, there is much more that will follow in God’s judgment and in His deliverance. I will leave you with a dangling thought so that maybe, just maybe, you might be drawn to continue on into the next article. What word was used in this 16th Chapter of Numbers more than in any other chapter in the Bible? Why is this one particular word the key to the message of Numbers Chapter 16 in Korah and his company of traitors? What was the first sin of the sanctuary? How does this first sin relate to our age? How does this particular word in Numbers Chapter 16 connect to our time frame?
