THE COAT – Part 11 – The Cloke – The Law Giver – Rewarder- The Mountain Top – The Priest –

The Coat
Part 11

—–◆—–
INTRODUCTION

We have been following one word throughout Scripture using various teaching methods of the Holy Spirit of God. From the Law of First Mention to progressive revelation we have the word coat when it was first documented in Genesis 37:3, Now Israel loved Joseph more than all his children, because he [was] the son of his old age: and he made him a coat of [many] colours. CLICK HERE to read the first article on coat.

This series titled The COAT opened many different facets of the GODHEAD. From the first mention of the word COAT, God revealed the themes and subjects of SONSHIP, HEIRSHIP, SACRIFICE, PRIESTHOOD, KINGSHIP, KINGDOM, and CONSPIRACY against the KINGDOM of God, the GREAT FORCE OF SIN, the SONS OF GOD and the MORNING STARS, and lastly through the Song of Songs, the word coat set before us the ONE, the SUBJECT, the PERSON who exemplified every mention of the word coat from its first documentation. A wondrous journey, another proof of the Divine Authorship of the Bible, how the Holy Spirit of God through one word built a spiritual presentation of the Messiah to not only the Jew but to ALL seekers of truth. One word placed upon the same word, and again the same word placed upon itself led to the revealing of the PERSON of Christ. As the word coat in the Old Testament ended in the Book of Loves in the PERSON of ALL LOVE, what more could there possibly be in the simple word coat? Now let us venture into the New Testament following the simple word coat through the guidance of the Holy Spirit of God.
In four verses in the New Testament the word coat is documented five times. In the message to the world (the number four) we see the GRACE (the number five) of God presented to man in different areas of His message and in different circumstances of His grace.
1. And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have [thy] cloke also. (Matthew 5:40)
2. And unto him that smiteth thee on the [one] cheek offer also the other; and him that taketh away thy cloke forbid not [to take thy] coat also. (Luke 6:29)
3. Then the soldiers, when they had crucified Jesus, took his garments, and made four parts, to every soldier a part; and also [his] coat: now the coat was without seam, woven from the top throughout. (John 19:23)
4. Therefore that disciple whom Jesus loved saith unto Peter, It is the Lord. Now when Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he girt [his] fisher’s coat [unto him], (for he was naked,) and did cast himself into the sea. (John 21:7)
These four verses will be our jumping off point to see what the Holy Spirit of God desires that we should understand through the word coat. From the ULTIMATE presentation of the PERSON of Christ in the Old Testament, the New Testament sets before us through the first two mentions of the word coat not only CHRIST Himself but His gospel and His doctrine, and now He adds man into the mix. Carefully read the first two mentions of coat in Matthew 5:40 and Luke 6:29 and notice what the Holy Spirit ADDS to the word coat.
I ask the Spirit of God to lead the way: to remove any preconceived erroneous thoughts, to be fearless in wisdom that may be contrary to acceptable established teaching. Therefore, let us plow ahead into the word coat beginning with the gospel of the kingdom in the book of the gospel of Matthew and the gospel to all of mankind in the gospel of Luke.

The COAT and the CLOKE

And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have [thy] cloke also. (Matthew 5:40)
And unto him that smiteth thee on the [one] cheek offer also the other; and him that taketh away thy cloke forbid not [to take thy] coat also. (Luke 6:29)

Interesting where we find the first mention of the word coat: in the first book titled the gospel of Matthew, which is also the fortieth (40th) book in the Bible, Chapter 5 (GRACE) in verse 40 (TRIAL). Already I see TRIAL stamped into this 40th book of the Bible. These two verses appear to be similar in purpose, in consequences and in doctrine, however, through these two verses the Holy Spirit opens another avenue of spiritual understanding through the addition of the word cloke. The very first time that the word cloke is documented in Scripture sets the foundation for what follows through this word later in the New Testament. Everything in Scripture has an order to its development. The Old Testament sets the foundation theme, and the New Testament fulfills the theme. To get the most from Isaiah 59:17 READ the complete Chapter. Chapter 59 is about mankind swallowed up by sin, and in verses 16 and 17 we are introduced to a RIGHTEOUS MAN, a RIGHTEOUS INTERCESSOR, and a RIGHTEOUS SAVIOR in the midst of an evil nation, an evil people, and an evil world.

And he saw that there was no man, and wondered that there was no intercessor: therefore his arm brought salvation unto him; and his righteousness, it sustained him. (Isaiah 59:16)
For he put on righteousness as a breastplate, and an helmet of salvation upon his head; and he put on the garments of vengeance [for] clothing, and was clad with zeal as a cloke. (Isaiah 59:17)

Through the word CLOKE God discloses the heart of man. That is what the word CLOKE is based on . . . YES . . . this connects to the word COAT in the New Testament. Also notice what many would call ‘a minor detail.’ Throughout verses 2 through 8 the prophet Isaiah used the words ‘YOUR’ and ‘THEIR’ and ‘THEY’ . . . YOUR iniquities, YOUR sin, YOUR hands, YOUR fingers . . . THEY trust in vanity, THEY conceive mischief, THEIR webs, THEIR works are works of iniquity, THEIR feet run to evil, and THEIR thoughts of iniquity.

Behold, the LORD’S hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear: (Isaiah 59:1)
But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear. (Isaiah 59:2)
For your hands are defiled with blood, and your fingers with iniquity; your lips have spoken lies, your tongue hath muttered perverseness. (Isaiah 59:3)
None calleth for justice, nor any pleadeth for truth: they trust in vanity, and speak lies; they conceive mischief, and bring forth iniquity. (Isaiah 59:4)
They hatch cockatrice’ eggs, and weave the spider’s web: he that eateth of their eggs dieth, and that which is crushed breaketh out into a viper. (Isaiah 59:5)
Their webs shall not become garments, neither shall they cover themselves with their works: their works are works of iniquity, and the act of violence is in their hands. (Isaiah 59:6)
Their feet run to evil, and they make haste to shed innocent blood: their thoughts are thoughts of iniquity; wasting and destruction are in their paths. (Isaiah 59:7)
The way of peace they know not; and there is no judgment in their goings: they have made them crooked paths: whosoever goeth therein shall not know peace. (Isaiah 59:8)

‘YOUR,’ ‘THEIR,’ and ‘THEY’ . . . THAT is the world. ALL of the world, everyone in the world is described in Isaiah 59:2, But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear. Then God the Holy Spirit, through the powerful pen and vigorous voice of His prophet Isaiah, uses the words US and WE and OUR, thus drawing the nation of Israel and every individual of the nation of Israel into His decree of His righteous judgment to come. WE grope, WE stumble, WE are in desolate places as dead men, WE roar, mourn, OUR transgressions, OUR sins testify against US, and as for OUR iniquities, WE know them.

Therefore is judgment far from us, neither doth justice overtake us: we wait for light, but behold obscurity; for brightness, but we walk in darkness. (Isaiah 59:9)
We grope for the wall like the blind, and we grope as if we had no eyes: we stumble at noonday as in the night; we are in desolate places as dead men. (Isaiah 59:10)
We roar all like bears, and mourn sore like doves: we look for judgment, but there is none; for salvation, but it is far off from us. (Isaiah 59:11)
For our transgressions are multiplied before thee, and our sins testify against us: for our transgressions are with us; and as for our iniquities, we know them; (Isaiah 59:12)
In transgressing and lying against the LORD, and departing away from our God, speaking oppression and revolt, conceiving and uttering from the heart words of falsehood. (Isaiah 59:13)

God righteously states that the nation of Israel deserves His judgment, BUT as many today cry against Israel these criers refuse to admit that they are just as guilty as Israel in denying the TRUTH that their iniquities have separated GOD from ALL of mankind. BUT God has provided for Israel and for the world a RIGHTEOUS MAN, a RIGHTEOUS INTERCESSOR, and a RIGHTEOUS SAVIOR.

And the Redeemer shall come to Zion, and unto them that turn from transgression in Jacob, saith the LORD. (Isaiah 59:20)
And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob: (Romans 11:26)

Repetition is good to assure the born again ones, the redeemed, the forgiven, and the repentant heart and soul that ALL of the Old Testament is FULFILLED in the New Testament. The Old Testament and the New Testament are twins (similar and yet dissimilar) separated by blood and birth but joined united together through FAITH and TRUTH.

Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile; (Romans 2:9)
But glory, honour, and peace, to every man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile: (Romans 2:10)

As readers of past articles are aware that in almost every case, the spiritual definition of a word or a thought is mostly found in the very first mention. We call this the Law of First Mention. The first mention of the word CLOKE in the book of Isaiah clearly accomplishes and completes what the Holy Spirit of God intended. We have SIN, and because of SIN man is separated from God, and God has to judge SIN AND MAN, and to accomplish this judgment, a Supernatural MAN was sent to bear the sins of many. So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation. (Hebrews 9:28) Why many and NOT all? Simply because NOT all want their sins to be placed on Christ. NOT ALL believe that they are worthy of judgment. NOT ALL want their sins to be removed and forgiven. NOT ALL want their sins removed and forgiven GOD’s way. Many want their sins removed and forgiven ONLY through THEIR way. Many say, It is their way or no way, while God says, it is ONLY HIS way.

The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world. (John 1:29)
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. (John 3:16)
For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. (John 3:17)
He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. (John 3:18)
And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. (John 3:19)
For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. (John 3:20)

Leaving the first mention of CLOKE in the book of Isaiah, the proper order of God is to first set the foundation of a theme, then upon that theme the Spirit of God builds other themes, and other issues and other subjects. As we go on to the New Testament just keep in mind the foundation: SIN and SALVATION, SINFUL MAN and the RIGHTEOUS MAN . . . now on to the New Testament and the COAT and the CLOKE.

—–◆—–
CLOKE

The word CLOKE is documented seven times in Scripture: once in the Old Testament and six times in the New Testament.
1. For he put on righteousness as a breastplate, and an helmet of salvation upon his head; and he put on the garments of vengeance [for] clothing, and was clad with zeal as a cloke. (Isaiah 59:17)
2. And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have [thy] cloke also. (Matthew 5:40)
3. And unto him that smiteth thee on the [one] cheek offer also the other; and him that taketh away thy cloke forbid not [to take thy] coat also. (Luke 6:29)
4. If I had not come and spoken unto them, they had not had sin: but now they have no cloke for their sin. (John 15:22)
5. For neither at any time used we flattering words, as ye know, nor a cloke of covetousness; God [is] witness: (1st Thessalonians 2:5)
6. The cloke that I left at Troas with Carpus, when thou comest, bring [with thee], and the books, [but] especially the parchments. (2nd Timothy 4:13)
7. As free, and not using [your] liberty for a cloke of maliciousness, but as the servants of God. (1st Peter 2:16)
Notice that the word CLOKE in the New Testament is connected to the law, physical aggression, hidden sin, covetousness and maliciousness. In the 6th mention Paul left his cloke at Troas, the ancient Greek city of Troy located in Turkey. It is fittingly the 6th mention as it relates to earthly man historically and connected to the words books and parchments another spiritual meaning of the word cloke casts man’s attempt to hid his sin behind intellectualism. Although it was Paul’s cloke, the theme within the law of first mention of the word cloke progressively reveals man’s attempt to hid his sin, to cloke, to disguise, and to veil evil as a Trojan horse.

THE DIVINE LAW GIVER
The Law and the Coat
But I say unto you

And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have [thy] cloke also. (Matthew 5:40)

And unto him that smiteth thee on the [one] cheek offer also the other; and him that taketh away thy cloke forbid not [to take thy] coat also. (Luke 6:29)

These two verses appear to be similar in purpose, in consequences and in doctrine, however, the Holy Spirit distinctly separates these two verses revealing more about the ONE speaking. The Lord Jesus Christ sets a standard beyond man’s comprehension in Matthew 5:40 and in Luke 6:29. God’s GOLD STANDARD represents GOD’s Holiness and His Righteousness.

Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. (Matthew 5:17)
For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. (Matthew 5:18)
Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. (Matthew 5:19)
For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven. (Matthew 5:20)

Let’s examine the first mention of cloke in the New Testament (Matthew 5:40) which is also the second mention of the word in Scripture. The Holy Spirit of God chose the gospel of Matthew to begin His epic of the fulfilment of the prophecies and promises of the Old Testament. The New Testament does not begin with the book of Acts (the history of the Church) nor with the book of Jude (the summation of man’s history) nor with the book of Romans (the supreme court of The Law of Sin and Death) with grace and law.
The New Testament had to begin in the proper order of the Person of Jesus Christ: Matthew is the gospel of the KING of Israel, the lion; Mark is the gospel of the servant, the ox; Luke is the gospel of the Son of man, face of a man; and the gospel of John is the book of the Holy Spirit, the eagle. (As for the likeness of their faces, they four had the face of a man, and the face of a lion, on the right side: and they four had the face of an ox on the left side; they four also had the face of an eagle. Ezekiel 1:10) The proper order from the gospel is CHRIST in KINGSHIP (the gospel of Matthew – the lion), then CHRIST in SERVICE (the gospel of Mark – the ox), then CHRIST IN SONSHIP (the gospel of Luke – man), and lastly, CHRIST IN GODHEAD (the gospel of John – the eagle). CLICK HERE for more about the gospel faces.
This 5th Chapter is famous because the Beatitudes is first recorded in this Chapter. Each gospel presents the Lord in a different aspect and yet there is never any conflict between the gospels. There are those who state that the gospel of Matthew is ONLY for the Jews. NOT. Although there are specific times that specific Scriptures are for specific people or individuals . . . the Bible was written by God through the Spirit of God for YOU, for ME, for US, for ALL who read and for all who seek His truth.
The book of Matthew, the book of the kingdom, presents the Lord Jesus Christ as the King of Israel, it was written to present Christ first to the nation of Israel. Yes, FIRST to the nation of Israel. Did Israel, even back 2000 plus years, deserve God’s Christ? Of course not, no one and no nation are worthy of Christ. It is because man is worthless that God sent His Son to die for man. Israel is still worthless; every nation is worthless and everyone outside of FAITH IN Christ is worthless. It is NOT about mankind being worthy, IT IS ABOUT GOD IN CHRIST BEING WORTHY.

Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created. (Revelation 4:11)
And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation; (Revelation 5:9)
Saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing. (Revelation 5:12)

In the darkness of his unfettered sin man bases himself as the center for the focus of all others. They cannot endure that they are NOT exceptional and special to others. The evilness of man’s delusions of worthiness and grandiose superiority over others is what overcomes man.

Our two study verses around the word coat reveals MORE about the ONE speaking, the KING of Israel who is also the divine LAW GIVER. Let us take each study verse separately. In Matthew Chapter 5, the word law is recorded three times: Matthew 5:17, 18, 40, however, in Chapter 6 of Luke the word law is NOT documented. So, from that little fact, as we study the word coat in Matthew 5 it is connected to the LAW, and thus, also to the LAW GIVER.
We are juggling two balls in the air, coat and law . . . and we also have two connections through the word COAT and the word LAW. In the Old Testament, as we examined the word coat, ALL was about the PERSON of the Lord Jesus Christ. In the New Testament, the first two mentions of the word coat are connected to those of the earth wearing the coat of sin and the cloak of evil.
Through the word coat in Matthew Chapter 5, the Holy Spirit of God reveals that the coat now is placed on man, and the ONE speaking about the coat and the law is the DIVINE LAW GIVER. Now let’s pick up another ball and juggle that ball among the balls of coat and law, and we will call this third ball, the LAW GIVER.
God had previously set a standard by which man should live. The law given to Moses BY GOD contained the moral law, civil law and ceremonial law. For thousands of years societies have based or patterned (knowingly or deliberately) their tribal or national laws around the moral law around the Ten Commandments and many religions formed their traditions around the ceremonial law.
It was clearly GOD who spoke the words to Moses, And God spake all these words, saying, (Exodus 20:1) I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. (Exodus 20:2) The following verses contain what we refer to as the Ten Commandments.

Thou shalt have no other gods before me. (Exodus 20:3)
Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: (Exodus 20:4)
Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; (Exodus 20:5)
And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments. (Exodus 20:6)
Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain. (Exodus 20:7)
Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. (Exodus 20:8)
Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: (Exodus 20:9)
But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: (Exodus 20:10)
For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it. (Exodus 20:11)
Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee. (Exodus 20:12)
Thou shalt not kill. (Exodus 20:13)
Thou shalt not commit adultery. (Exodus 20:14)
Thou shalt not steal. (Exodus 20:15)
Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour. (Exodus 20:16)
Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour’s. (Exodus 20:17)

As we read Chapter 5 of the book of Matthew, the Holy Spirit used a phrase ONLY FOUND in the New Testament . . . But I say unto you. This phrase is documented twelve (12) times in the gospel of Matthew . . . very fitting, six times in the fifth Chapter of Matthew, and once in Mark and twice in Luke for a total of fifteen (15) times. Fifteen is an amazing number. It relates to the number three (3) multiplied to the number (5). Also in the number ten (10) we have God’s perfect order ADDED. It also is much more than 3, 5, and 10, and at each multiplication and addition it carries another spiritual message. However, since our study phrase of But I say unto you is in Chapter 5, we will use five (5) as our base number and ten as our additional number. Five, the number of GRACE and ten is the number of God’s PERFECT ORDER speaks volumes through But I say unto you. Maybe at another time, the Lord will allow the number fifteen to be seen as HIS DIVINE ENERGY of spiritual perfection through HIS PERFECT ORDER in His GRACE and by the GODHEAD bodily.

Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment: (Matthew 5:21)

1. But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire. (Matthew 5:22)

Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery: (Matthew 5:27)

2. But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart. (Matthew 5:28)

It hath been said, Whosoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a writing of divorcement: (Matthew 5:31)

3. But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery. (Matthew 5:32)

Again, ye have heard that it hath been said by them of old time, Thou shalt not forswear thyself, but shalt perform unto the Lord thine oaths: (Matthew 5:33)

4. But I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by heaven; for it is God’s throne: (Matthew 5:34)

Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth: (Matthew 5:38)

5. But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also. (Matthew 5:39)

Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy. (Matthew 5:43)

6. But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; (Matthew 5:44)

~

7. But I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the day of judgment, than for you. (Matthew 11:22)
8. But I say unto you, That it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment, than for thee. (Matthew 11:24)
9. But I say unto you, That in this place is [one] greater than the temple. (Matthew 12:6)
10. But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. (Matthew 12:36)
11. But I say unto you, That Elias is come already, and they knew him not, but have done unto him whatsoever they listed. Likewise shall also the Son of man suffer of them. (Matthew 17:12)
12. But I say unto you, I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom. (Matthew 26:29)

~

13. But I say unto you, That Elias is indeed come, and they have done unto him whatsoever they listed, as it is written of him. (Mark 9:13)

~

14. But I say unto you which hear, Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you, (Luke 6:27)
15. But I say unto you, that it shall be more tolerable in that day for Sodom, than for that city. (Luke 10:12)
The Lord Jesus Christ because HE IS GOD ADDED to the commandments and to His ordinances and to His edicts to reveal HIS GOLD STANDARD of righteousness and holiness. Since the Lord Jesus IS the DIVINE LAW GIVER He alone fulfills the law. Since the Lord Jesus is the DIVINE LAW GIVER He alone can obey the law. Since the Law and the Commandments were holy, just and good, and since He alone IS HOLY, JUST and GOOD therefore HE alone can execute and satisfy the Law and the Commandments, Wherefore the law [is] holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good. (Hebrews 7:19) For the law made nothing perfect, but the bringing in of a better hope [did]; by the which we draw nigh unto God. (Romans 7:12)
As He spoke the words, But I say unto you, the righteousness of the law was fulfilled IN Him. He, the DIVINE LAW GIVER set GOD’S STANDARD IN BLOOD. Mankind can live up neither to the Ten Commandments, nor to God’s Laws. These laws and commandments were given to reveal man’s inability to obey. These laws and commandments were given so that man could realize his true nature and his fallen state of sin. The Law and the Commandments were given so that mankind could see that he was guilty before God and that God was Righteous and Holy and man could NEVER attain God’s STANDARD.

Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God. (Romans 3:19)
Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law [is] the knowledge of sin. (Romans 3:20)

The DIVINE LAW GIVER obeyed, fulfilled and satisfied the DIVINE LAW.

THE GREAT REWARDER

And unto him that smiteth thee on the [one] cheek offer also the other; and him that taketh away thy cloke forbid not [to take thy] coat also. (Luke 6:29)

Chapter six of the gospel of Luke takes place in the midst of the enemies of God and His Christ. Since this is Chapter six, it sets man in his world of conflict. In our study verse of Luke 6:29, there are key words that not only describe man, but it also describes the time period in which Christ faced His enemies . . . smiteth and taketh away. I would definitely call those actions as aggressive. Although Chapter 6 contains some of what we refer to as the Beatitudes, this Chapter is full of conflict.

And the scribes and Pharisees watched him, whether he would heal on the sabbath day; that they might find an accusation against him. (Luke 6:7)
But he knew their thoughts, and said to the man which had the withered hand, Rise up, and stand forth in the midst. And he arose and stood forth. (Luke 6:8)
Then said Jesus unto them, I will ask you one thing; Is it lawful on the sabbath days to do good, or to do evil? to save life, or to destroy it? (Luke 6:9)
And looking round about upon them all, he said unto the man, Stretch forth thy hand. And he did so: and his hand was restored whole as the other. (Luke 6:10)
And they were filled with madness; and communed one with another what they might do to Jesus. (Luke 6:11)

Unlike the eight Beautitudes in Matthew Chapter 5, there are four in Luke 6: Blessed be ye poor: Blessed are ye that hunger, Blessed are ye that weep now, Blessed are ye, when men shall hate you.

And he lifted up his eyes on his disciples, and said, Blessed be ye poor: for yours is the kingdom of God. (Luke 6:20)
Blessed are ye that hunger now: for ye shall be filled. Blessed are ye that weep now: for ye shall laugh. (Luke 6:21)
Blessed are ye, when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate you from their company, and shall reproach you, and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of man’s sake. (Luke 6:22)

The eight Beatitudes in Matthew speaks of mankind, however, in Luke we have the physical condition and the state of man then at that exact time in time. Notice that the word NOW is mentioned in the beatitudes in Luke, but the word NOW is NOT mentioned at all in Matthew 5. They were POOR. HUNGRY, HATED, MOURNFUL and GRIEF stricken.
Our study verse of (And unto him that smiteth thee on the [one] cheek offer also the other; and him that taketh away thy cloke forbid not [to take thy] coat also. Luke 6:29) is about those who have their cloke forcefully and illegally taken from them, and the comment of the Lord to forbid not [to take thy] coat also. The coat and the cloke describes the person of FAITH being physically involved as a victim of hate. Know that all those of FAITH will face hatred and acts of hate by the evil ones. Defense is one thing, and revenge is another, but within Luke 6:29 (And unto him that smiteth thee on the [one] cheek offer also the other; and him that taketh away thy cloke forbid not [to take thy] coat also.) it is neither about defense, nor about revenge, it is about REWARD. Read 2nd Samuel Chapter 16. During David’s forced exile he suffered humiliation and spiteful taunts, yet he refused to return curse for curse for he looked forward to God’s reward for enduring what God had placed before him: the loss of material goods and the loss of position as king.

Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head. (Romans 12:20)
If thine enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he be thirsty, give him water to drink: (Proverbs 25:21) For thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head, and the LORD shall reward thee. (Proverbs 25:22)
It may be that the LORD will look on mine affliction, and that the LORD will requite me good for his cursing this day. (2nd Samuel 16:12)
Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. (Matthew 5:11) Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great [is] your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you. (Matthew 5:12)For the

Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works. (Matthew 16:27)
For this is thankworthy, if a man for conscience toward God endure grief, suffering wrongfully. (1st Peter 2:19)
But and if ye suffer for righteousness’ sake, happy are ye: and be not afraid of their terror, neither be troubled; (1st Peter 3:14)
If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified. (1st Peter 4:14)
Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf. (1st Peter 4:16)
And they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his name. (Acts 5:41)

As Matthew Chapter 6 revealed the DIVINE LAW GIVER, the gospel of Luke Chapter 6 also reveals another aspect of the Lord Jesus Christ. The coat and the cloak are the strings that lead us deeper into this 6th Chapter. As in all things, written and experienced it is NOT about us, it is about GOD. It is not about our coat or our cloak, but it is about the ONE who wears the garment of the many colors of GLORY. It is not about our loss but it is about our GAIN IN HIM. Our coat and cloak may be taken through strife, but our FAITH and SALVATION can NEITHER be removed, nor stripped from us. What does the Spirit of God want to impart to us through the physical lose of material things? The loss of material things of this world is not unexpected, for we have things of far greater value waiting for us. This is what our study verse is about . . . losing what is temporary is to be expected, but we have greater and better things that are eternal. Through strife and smiting, and hatred and poverty and hunger the Spirit of God presents another aspect of the Lord Jesus Christ. He IS the GREAT REWARDER. But without faith [it is] impossible to please [him]: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and [that] he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. (Hebrews 11:6) Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works. (Matthew 16:27)

Blessed are ye, when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate you from their company, and shall reproach you, and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of man’s sake. (Luke 6:22)
Rejoice ye in that day, and leap for joy: for, behold, your reward is great in heaven: for in the like manner did their fathers unto the prophets. (Luke 6:23)

In Matthew 5:40 the Lord Jesus Christ is the DIVINE LAW GIVER and in Luke 6:29 HE is the GREAT REWARDER. Let us now advance further to the third mention of the word coat in the New Testament.

THE TOP

3. Then the soldiers, when they had crucified Jesus, took his garments, and made four parts, to every soldier a part; and also [his] coat: now the coat was without seam, woven from the top throughout. (John 19:23)

Again, we have the number four, however, we now have four soldiers. As the number four is the number of the world, this includes mankind. It is fitting that in this scene in the gospel of John these four soldiers represent world government. Although it was the dedicated religious Jews who became INSANE through envy and hatred toward the Lord Jesus Christ, it was ROME who tortured and crucified the Lord of glory. And they were filled with madness; and communed one with another what they might do to Jesus. (Luke 6:11) Madness and insanity are the end result of all government controlled by a people in conflict against their Creator God. As Lucifer became INSANELY MAD because of his failure to overturn God, so also mankind in their last age and stage of existence will also be INSANELY MAD. (The world is in its LAST AGE and LAST STAGE NOW.) The failed method that Lucifer employed to gain superiority was to attempt to divide God’s kingdom. The seemingly successful method that Satan used to gain control over the earth is the same divide and conquer method, but this will also fail.
Now back to the seamless coat . . .
The Lord’s garments were divided, but His coat could not be divided because it was WITHOUT SEAM. His coat of GODHEAD was made from ONE piece of fabric. As Adam and Eve were first clothed with skins of death representing their state and sinful condition, so also Christ wore a coat that represented His state and condition: His Deity, His Sovereignty, His Divine Nature, His ONENESS as the GODHEAD bodily: indivisible and inseparable.
This 23rd verse in the 19th Chapter of John not only reveals the ONENESS of the GODHEAD bodily in Jesus Christ but it also reveals the Lord Jesus Christ as CREATOR . . . woven from the top throughout. The Lord Jesus Christ was FROM THE TOP THROUGHOUT. He was BEFORE THE BEGINNING because He IS the beginning of the creation of God. You can’t out top that. And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God. (Revelation 3:14) This verse does not speak of the beginning of the invisible God, nor the beginning of the visible GOD in the PERSON of Jesus Christ, but it speaks of the beginning of His creative acts and works.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. (John 1:1)
The same was in the beginning with God. (John 1:2)
All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. (John 1:3)
And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was. (John 17:5)
And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. (Colossians 1:17)
For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one. (1st John 5:7)
By the word of the LORD were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth. (Psalm 33:6)
And the LORD appeared again in Shiloh: for the LORD revealed himself to Samuel in Shiloh by the word of the LORD. (1st Samuel 3:21)
And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God. (Revelation 19:13)

CHRIST is UNTOPPABLE, He cannot be out topped. As the written word of God is supernal, so also is the Living Word of God. As the Living Word of God is Supernatural, so also is the written word of God. As the written word of God is forever, so also is the Living Word eternal. Since Christ is the highest mountain, He is untoppable. The mountain, the highest point, denotes the pinnacle of God’s majestic supernatural government and divine realm of justice and righteousness.
The word mountain in the Old Testament lays the meaning and the description in symbolism of God IN Christ: the mountain is called holy sixteen times, great twice and high seven times. However, it is in the Song of Love, the Song of Songs that we see Christ as the mountain of myrrh. Until the day break, and the shadows flee away, I will get me to the mountain of myrrh, and to the hill of frankincense. (Song of Songs 4:6) Always keep in mind while reading the Bible that the written word of God not only describes the Living Word of God (the Lord Jesus Christ), but the Living Word of God IS the written word of God. So, therefore, the mountain of myrrh IS the Lord of glory, the mountain of holiness IS Christ, and the mountain of refuge IS Christ.

(Myrrh was one of the gifts from the wise men of the east presented to the holy child Jesus at His birth on earth was also one of the ointments that was used to wrap Him in the ceremonial burial linen clothes at His death. (He was wrapped with strips of linen cloths NOT a SHROUD. CLICK HERE for more about the counterfeit burial robe called the Shroud of Turin.)
This ointment of myrrh was also extremely precious in monetary value and specifically used as the anointing oil used for dedication and service in the Tabernacle in the wilderness by Aaron, the earthly high priest of Israel.)
The Holy Spirit urges that we should get to the mountain of myrrh, and to the hill of frankincense. CLICK HERE to read more about the mountain of our refuge. CHRIST is our HOLY, GREAT and HIGH mountain woven from the top throughout.

In the THIRD mention of the word coat, it is recorded TWO times . . . and also [his] coat: now the coat . . . and again the UNSEEN and HIDDEN message with the numbers play out . . . the last gospel, the gospel of John, within Chapter 19 we have the crucifixion and the burial of Christ. This would appear to be the FINALITY or the END or the CONCLUSION of Christ’s appearance and His work on earth. In this we have numerically the number 9 (THE END) and the number 1 (GODHEAD) . . . the CONCLUSION of the GODHEAD on earth (19), but this number only marks the FULFILLMENT (not the end) of the promise of God to Satan and to Eve. The END of the number 9 is in His overcoming sin, death, and the works of the devil. It wasn’t the END of God’s work on earth, nor the END of the ETERNAL ONE.

And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel. (Genesis 3:15)
Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; (Hebrews 2:14)

In the 23rd verse of Chapter 19, God’s numerical UNSEEN message is this: there is the witness (2) of the POWER of the GODHEAD bodily, the great I AM (3) in the previous number of the fulfillment of God’s promise to mankind that HE would destroy the works of the devil (19).

He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. (1st John 3:8)
Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; (Hebrews 2:14)
And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it. (Colossians 2:15)

GOD IN CHRIST IS UNTOPPABLE and UNSTOPPABLE.

THE ONENESS
in PRIESTLY SERVICE

3. Then the soldiers, when they had crucified Jesus, took his garments, and made four parts, to every soldier a part; and also [his] coat: now the coat was without seam, woven from the top throughout. (John 19:23)

Christ wore a coat, a robe, that was woven without seams, seamless. It had ONE hole in the midst of the robe which served as the place for the head to be visible. This robe served as protection and for visibility. The ONLY other garment in Scripture that is described as having a hole in the midst of the robe was the robe of the high priests of Israel. Two chapters in the book of Exodus describe the robe of the high priest: Chapters 28 and 39. Two is the number of witness, and this number also relates to the second witness of the Godhead bodily: the WORD, the Lord Jesus Christ in the order of 1st John 5:7, For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.

And thou shalt make holy garments for Aaron thy brother for glory and for beauty. (Exodus 28:2)
And thou shalt make the robe of the ephod all of blue. (Exodus 28:31) And there shall be an hole in the top of it, in the midst thereof: it shall have a binding of woven work round about the hole of it, as it were the hole of an habergeon, that it be not rent. (Exodus 28:32)
And he made the robe of the ephod [of] woven work, all [of] blue. (Exodus 39:22) And [there was] an hole in the midst of the robe, as the hole of an habergeon, [with] a band round about the hole, that it should not rend. (Exodus 39:23)

That robe was of WOVEN work, and to secure it from being torn or rent it had a band round about the hole that strengthened the hole. The COAT WITHOUT SEAM worn by the Lord Jesus Christ symbolically fulfilled the garment of glory and beauty worn by Aaron, the first high priest of Israel. Christ FULFILLED all symbolism of Deity in the Old Testament, He FULFILLED all types of Himself in the Old Testament, He FULFILLED all righteous acts performed in the Old Testament, He FULFILLED ALL articles of SERVICE WITHIN the TABERNACLE in the wilderness, HE FULFILLED ALL articles of SERVICE WITHIN the TEMPLE in Jerusalem that had been built by Solomon. As the visible image of the invisible God, Christ as Melchisedec, FULFILLED His office as the High Priest of God. At His baptism at the River Jordan, when Christ (the rejected KING and PRIEST) and the earthly rejected true last priest of Israel, John the Baptist, came together in one act of baptism, they BOTH together FULFILLED righteousness through their priestly positions, symbolically, spiritually and systematically. John the Baptist fulfilled Aaron’s office as the priest of the sacrifice and offering as the Lord Jesus Christ fulfilled His role as Melchisedec, the High Priest of God, as both the Sacrifice and the Offering.

Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him. (Matthew 3:13) But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me? (Matthew 3:14) And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him. (Matthew 3:15)

With all that in mind, let us return to the SEAMLESS COAT of ONENESS after the crucifixion of the Lord of glory at Calvary recorded in John 19:23. It is the connection of the robe of glory and beauty of the first high priest of Israel (Aaron) that is FULFILLED in the robes of pain and suffering of the last High Priest of Israel (Christ through His role as Melchisedec, King of Peace and King of Righteousness). There at the River Jordan, there were two: one . . . a man . . . the last high priest of Israel (John the Baptist) and the second . . . THE HOLY THING, THE HOLY CHILD, THE HOLY ONE, THE HOLY ONE OF ISRAEL, and the invisible GOD in the visible image of CHRIST. Together they FULFILLED all righteousness . . . for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness.
The ONENESS of the Lord’s coat not only portrays the ONENESS of the GODHEAD bodily but also the ONENESS of Melchisedec, the great high priest who passed into the heavens as Jesus the Son of God. Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast [our] profession. (Hebrews 4:14)          The phrase a great high priest is only mentioned ONCE in Scripture. Of course, it has to be once because Christ Jesus is the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, called of God an high priest after the order of Melchisedec, made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec, and who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens. King of righteousness, and King of peace is His priestly name: Melchisedec.

Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto [his] brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things [pertaining] to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people. (Hebrews 2:17)
Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus; (Hebrews 3:1)
Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast [our] profession. (Hebrews 4:14) For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as [we are, yet] without sin. (Hebrews 4:15)
Called of God an high priest after the order of Melchisedec. (Hebrews 5:10)
Whither the forerunner is for us entered, [even] Jesus, made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec. (Hebrews 6:20)
For such an high priest became us, [who is] holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens; (Hebrews 7:26)
Now of the things which we have spoken [this is] the sum: We have such an high priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens; (Hebrews 8:1)
But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building; (Hebrews 9:11)

It is in God’s proper divine order that the simple word of coat which began with the coat of many colors should close with the theme of the SEAMLESS COAT of the Lord Jesus Christ and connect to the robe of the high priest made from ONE piece of fabric. And there shall be an hole in the top of it, in the midst thereof: it shall have a binding of woven work round about the hole of it, (Exodus 39:23) The Holy Spirit, through the unseen Law of First Mention, began His progressive revelation of the GODHEAD bodily first through Joseph’s coat of many colors to reveal the MANY COLORS of the Lord Jesus Christ: the color of SONSHIP, the color of HEIRSHIP, the color of SACRIFICE, the color of KINGSHIP, the color of KINGDOM and LORDSHIP, and the color of PRIESTHOOD. It is not only God’s divine order but also His divine design to present His Son not only as THE GREAT LAW GIVER and THE GREAT REWARDER, and HIS GREAT HIGH PRIEST but also as KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.

And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war. (Revelation 19:11)
His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself. (Revelation 19:12)
And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God. (Revelation 19:13)
And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean. (Revelation 19:14)
And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. (Revelation 19:15)
And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS. (Revelation 19:16)

There are many more colors in the coat of Joseph, and there are many more glories in the coat of the Lord Jesus Christ that are SEEN and UNSEEN. READ and allow the Holy Spirit of God full rein to explore the beauty within the Living and written Word of God. May God bless you and spiritually enrich your heart, mind and soul through His magnificent universe of words by THE WORD OF GOD Himself.
