The Coat – Part 5 – The Coat of Mail -The Miracle Arrows – Brass and Iron -The Adversary and his son –

The Coat
Part 5

INTRODUCTION
to
—– The Coat of Mail—–

This is where we have been: . . . the COAT of SONSHIP and the COAT of HEIRSHIP and the GARMENT of BEAUTY and GLORY, and the little COAT of the PROPHET. The next mention in Scripture of the word coat is recorded in 1st Samuel 17:5 and verse 38. And [he had] an helmet of brass upon his head, and he [was] armed with a coat of mail; and the weight of the coat [was] five thousand shekels of brass. (1st Samuel 17:5) And Saul armed David with his armour, and he put an helmet of brass upon his head; also he armed him with a coat of mail. (1st Samuel 17:38)
Now we have a COAT OF MAIL. What a change in direction. Why now? After all the great heavenly spiritual connections to God’s realm concerning SONSHIP, HEIRSHIP and the garment of BEAUTY and GLORY . . . and now here in Chapter 17 we have a COAT of WAR. I feel, I sense, God is smiling upon us. His WORD and His word are both joyfully anticipating our journey into the world of His marvelous Book, the BIBLE . . . the BOOK of His loving PRESENCE . . . the BOOK of His BEAUTY and GLORY . . . the BOOK of TRUTH and GRACE . . . the BOOK full of the knowledge of God and of HIS WISDOM (the Lord Jesus Christ).
I think that Spurgeon would say at this moment, ‘Bridle your steed.’ I say, Let us slowly proceed with caution, let us NOT drop a stitch, for there is MUCH yet to LEARN.

—–The Adversary and the Coat of Mail—–

And [he had] an helmet of brass upon his head, and he [was] armed with a coat of mail; and the weight of the coat [was] five thousand shekels of brass. (1st Samuel 17:5)

Of course, now I suggest you go to SERIES OF INTEREST on the menu on this web site and CLICK on The COAT and for the busy readers . . . just CLICK HERE.

Chapter seventeen (17) is probably the most known Chapter in the Bible that even unbelievers know. It is the Chapter about the battle between David and the giant Goliath.

Although much has already been posted about this Chapter and Goliath, remember that there is no end to the word of God as there is no end to the Eternal WORD of God, the Lord Jesus Christ. What does the Holy Spirit of God have for us in 1st Samuel, Chapter 17, verse 5?

Now the Philistines gathered together their armies to battle, and were gathered together at Shochoh, which belongeth to Judah, and pitched between Shochoh and Azekah, in Ephesdammim.(1st Samuel 17:1)
And Saul and the men of Israel were gathered together, and pitched by the valley of Elah, and set the battle in array against the Philistines. (1st Samuel 17:2)
And the Philistines stood on a mountain on the one side, and Israel stood on a mountain on the other side: and there was a valley between them. (1st Samuel 17:3)
And there went out a champion out of the camp of the Philistines, named Goliath, of Gath, whose height was six cubits and a span. (1st Samuel 17:4)
And he had an helmet of brass upon his head, and he was armed with a coat of mail; and the weight of the coat was five thousand shekels of brass. (1st Samuel 17:5)
And he had greaves of brass upon his legs, and a target of brass between his shoulders. (1st Samuel 17:6)
And the staff of his spear was like a weaver’s beam; and his spear’s head weighed six hundred shekels of iron: and one bearing a shield went before him. (1st Samuel 17:7)
And he stood and cried unto the armies of Israel, and said unto them, Why are ye come out to set your battle in array? am not I a Philistine, and ye servants to Saul? choose you a man for you, and let him come down to me. (1st Samuel 17:8)
If he be able to fight with me, and to kill me, then will we be your servants: but if I prevail against him, and kill him, then shall ye be our servants, and serve us. (1st Samuel 17:9)
And the Philistine said, I defy the armies of Israel this day; give me a man, that we may fight together. (1st Samuel 17:10)
When Saul and all Israel heard those words of the Philistine, they were dismayed, and greatly afraid. (1st Samuel 17:11)

This adversary was named in verse 4, and in verses 5, 6 and 7 his battle armor is described, therefore let us focus on the armor of WAR. Chapter 17 contains much more than a description of a past battle, or a former enemy or even about a young warrior savior.
First, let us examine the number placement in the structure of the armor. Why verses 5, 6 and 7? Since the number 5 is the number of grace, and the number 6 is the number of man, and the number 7 is symbolic of the perfection of God why are these numbers placed in the description of the adversary’s battle gear? Consider the number 17.

Numbers are not only positive, but there are also negative numbers. For instance, since the grace of God is symbolically seen in the number five, how does sinful man use God’s grace in a negative way? First, man removes himself from the knowledge and understanding of God’s grace by wearing a helmet of brass upon his head, thus refusing to even allow the knowledge of God’s grace from entering into his thoughts, the gospel of grace rejected.

And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: (Ephesians 6:17)
For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, (Titus 2:11)
Of which salvation the prophets have enquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace [that should come] unto you: (1st Peter 1:10)

Next, we have armed with a coat of mail, . . . unrepentant man aggressively drapes himself in his own form of grace, his own gospel of grace. But the weight of man’s imagination of acquiring grace is a heavy burden and the weight of the coat was five thousand shekels of brass. Instead of the single digit of the number 5, man adds and adds and adds some more to his burden of his own imaginative salvation. And of course, we see the word shekels because money somehow always comes into play in man’s concept of grace and salvation. That is negative grace, the negative number five.
Secondly, let us examine the number 6, the number of man. And he had greaves of brass upon his legs, and a target of brass between his shoulders. (1st Samuel 17:6) Man’s perceived physical strength is in his legs and shoulders. The natural man follows the erroneous belief that he, through his own power and will, can achieve grace and salvation. Unrepentant, ungodly man conducts all of his actions and activities based on his mistaken assumption that he has the right to act as deems fit, but man has NO RIGHTS outside of the privileges that God allows him to have. This also takes in man’s assumption that he alone determines grace and truth. Then 1st Samuel 17:6 speaks of a target of brass between his shoulders. Brass speaks of man’s unrighteousness and God’s righteous judgment upon man’s unrighteousness. Since there is no-good thing within man, brass symbolically represents the sinful state of mankind under the judgment of God. [Is] my strength the strength of stones? or [is] my flesh of brass? (Job 6:12) Isaiah 9:6 describes the Lord Jesus Christ as bearing the weight of responsibility of GOVERNMENT on His shoulder. The shoulder is the place of responsibility upholding God’s government. For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Man has no SPIRITUAL strength to uphold his walk nor does he have the spiritual means to take control of and over government.
Lastly, in the placement of the number structure of the amour, we have the number seven, but the negative side of number seven discloses sinful man and what he considers his perfection. The spear and shield are man’s ultimate armors of spiritual and physical perfection. The spear for aggression and war, and the shield for defense against all enemies. However, notice man’s defense (the shield) was carried by another. As we should all realize by now in our military age that relying on others to bear and to aid in building our shield of defense is not a wise decision. And the staff of his spear was like a weaver’s beam; and his spear’s head weighed six hundred shekels of iron: and one bearing a shield went before him. (1st Samuel 17:7) Through the spiritual numbers of 1 – 7 – 7 we have the GODHEAD (1) and a double seven, witnessing of the dual perfection of God in God the Father, and God the Son through the witness (2) of the Spirit of God. THAT IS GOD’S PERFECTION even in the smallest detail. But, where is the negative in this number? The negative is what man places his perfection on and in. Man places his survival not only on his physical strength, but also on his ability to carry the heavy load of being the HEAD of power, the HEAD over ALL of mankind. (Adam as the first Federal Head of the earth, had no trouble throwing away this God given position, however, men and women battle against each other and for each other in their attempt to be the LAST FEDERAL HEAD of all the earth. Nimrod was the first person recorded in the new world as the head of a united federation of a One World Government.) Man is BLIND to God’s PERFECTION, and therefore, he is also blind that within himself is NO GOOD THING. As the positive number seven represents the perfection of God in ALL things, so the negative number seven represents man’s blindness to his sinful condition.

They are all gone aside, they are [all] together become filthy: [there is] none that doeth good, no, not one. (Psalm 14:3)
Every one of them is gone back: they are altogether become filthy; [there is] none that doeth good, no, not one. (Psalm 53:3)
As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: (Romans 3:10)
They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one. (Romans 3:12)
For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but [how] to perform that which is good I find not. (Romans 7:18)

The principal of the universal depraved nature of mankind in need of redemption and salvation is a bridge too far for many. Man finds it distasteful and repugnant to think that God refuses to accept man based on man’s good works and good intents. There it is again, man’s rights versus God’s rights, man’s will versus God’s will.
Goliath, the son of the unnamed giant of Gath, the son of Canaan, the son of Ham, the son of Cain, the son of Satan, the devil is the consummate image of man; therefore, the number six is written across his name and his weapons. Consider this. Goliath was one of five sons of the giant of Gath. Why did this family have FIVE sons and not SIX sons? Simply because the number six was saved for the revealing of man of sin, The Beast of the book of the Revelation. The Beast of the triune number 6 (6-6-6) would exemplify all the character traits of the family of Goliath.
Notice the numbers in the head of the spear, six hundred shekels of iron. From the single digit of 6, man adds hundreds to his own burden of power. Sinful, unrepentant man, number six, has increased his sin a hundred-fold. And not only that but his spear’s head is made of iron. Man wears brass and carries iron. Man wears his unrighteousness and thus, he bears the judgment of God. There is a spiritual lesson in wearing brass and carrying iron. Now that is a negative, don’t you think? Let us move from the principal of word placement to the law of First Mention in the following side note.

Side Note: Brass and Iron. The first mention of brass and iron in the same sentence is perfectly placed in Genesis Chapter 4, and verse 22. The seventh line from Cain through Lamech is where we have this first mention of brass and iron. And Zillah, she also bare Tubalcain, an instructer of every artificer in brass and iron: and the sister of Tubalcain [was] Naamah. There are three names connected with brass and iron: first, Zillah, then Tubalcain, and lastly the name of Naamah.

Scripture only records TWO men by the name of Lamech. The first mentioned was from the line of Cain, the original giant. (Satan is an expert Impersonator, he even uses names of the godly to hide under.) The second and last mentioned was from the line of Seth, the godly line. And Adam knew his wife again; and she bare a son, and called his name Seth: For God, [said she], hath appointed me another seed instead of Abel, whom Cain slew. (Genesis 4:25) There have always been two separate seeds within the history of mankind: the seed of FAITH and the seed of the devil: the sheep and the goats, the tares and the wheat.
And Lamech took unto him two wives: the name of the one was Adah, and the name of the other Zillah. (Genesis 4:19)
And Zillah, she also bare Tubalcain, an instructer of every artificer in brass and iron: and the sister of Tubalcain was Naamah. (Genesis 4:22)
Zillah means ‘the shaded one,’ or ‘sounding,’ The name of Tubalcain has a twofold meaning – ‘thou wilt be wrought of Cain,’ and ‘possessed of confusion.’ Naamah means ‘pleasant,’ and/or ‘graceful,’ and/or ‘lovely.’ I have known a number of families that could be called dysfunctional, but this family was most probably considered socially robust and examples of a fine ideal family unit of ‘Giant’ morality.
Zillah of course was ‘sounding.‘ Aren’t most women today? Her dual name unveiled another part of her personality, being ‘shaded,’ or in our terms, she was ‘a shady lady‘ . . . deceptive and unscrupulous. The ‘sounding’ is clear in that her voice may have been an added attraction in her musical skills; and the ‘sounding’ could also denote that she was verbally influential in her communication abilities.
It is the ‘shaded’ description that I find intriguing. Could she have been one who hid in the shadows, one who acted behind the scenes, one who controlled and manipulated others while hiding her true agenda. This unveils a two-part nature of the unrepentant woman – some are forcefully vocal, and others are quietly subversive. The danger not only lives in one or the other, but too many have been victims of the one who is both . . . shaded and sounding.
Notice that the Holy Spirit of God immediately sets the atmosphere in the very beginning of verse 22. (Spiritually since four is the number of the earth, and two is the number of witness, I’d say that we have the double witness of the tribe of Cain and his descendants (The Giants) in the earth before their destruction through the universal flood.)
Then Tubalcain ‘thou wilt be wrought of Cain,’ and ‘possessed of confusion ’was an instructed of every artificer in brass and iron. Here is the first smith recorded in Scripture. His dual name proudly refers back to the first person who was cursed by God. There had been a curse placed on Cain that has never been rescinded. And he said, What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother’s blood crieth unto me from the ground. (Genesis 4:10) And now art thou cursed from the earth, which hath opened her mouth to receive thy brother’s blood from thy hand; (Genesis 4:11) Wow and double WOW, named after the first man who was cursed by God. Strange that he neither started a political party nor a religion, he would have been perfect for the job!
Being an instructor, a teacher, a guide, a master in the construction and use of EVERY artifice in brass and iron takes in a lot of territory: musical instruments, idols, weaponry, practical inventions of all types, household products, and items of beauty and sound. These people from a race of GIANTS, from a CURSED race, from a race of MURDERERS, from an ungodly race that was expressly separated by God from the godly race of Seth became noted for being INSTRUCTORS of artifacts of war and pleasure.
Tubalcain’s dual name ‘thou wilt be wrought of Cain,’ and ‘possessed of confusion’ unveils a personality trait of the seed of Cain: cursed and confused, confused because of their curse. They were POSSESSED by their unstable double mindedness and unsettled in both words and deeds.
Let us move on to Tubalcain’s sister, and the second child of Zillah and Lamech, the pleasant, graceful, and lovely Naamah. Through this CURSED race, sex has to play a major role. Naamah symbolically and physically represents full outward and unabashed sexuality to attract and influence men. She also represents through the UNSEEN meaning of her name, the UNSEEN desire of many women to attain the power to attract and to influence . . . and here it is . . . to have a measure of CONTROL over men. Women desire to attain beauty and men desire to possess it.
The world of Cain and Lamech was very much like our own except for two things: a six pack in one hand and a cell phone in the other. (I’m on a roll, don’t get in my way.) You can’t sell a hamburger today without a sexual image. Even if you want to sell a JAG, throw in some creepy perverts. Our crazed society has become a mirror of the cursed antediluvian race of Cain. The race of those of the curse (THE GIANTS from the line of Cain) overtook the line of Seth until there was  ONE person, ONE man in all the earth who was righteous and who found grace in the eyes of the Lord. (It was not fallen angels but fallen man who caused the universal flood.) It is STILL the race of fallen man when on June 19, 2025, Democratic Oregon House members celebrated black drag performers, by having a drag performance on the state house floor. To Oregon’s House members this verse is for you, Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them. (Romans 1:32)

That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose. (Genesis 6:2)
And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years. (Genesis 6:3)
There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown. (Genesis 6:4)
And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. (Genesis 6:5)
And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart. (Genesis 6:6)
And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them. (Genesis 6:7)
But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD. (Genesis 6:8)

The offspring of Lamech and Zillah exemplified the character of their parents AND the CHARACTER of CAIN: ‘the shaded one,’ ‘sounding,’ – ‘thou wilt be wrought of Cain,’ ‘possessed of confusion’ – ‘pleasant,’‘graceful,’ ‘lovely.’ Brash, brazen, deceptive, unscrupulous, murderous, rebellious, cursed, unstable, sexually seductive and propagator of confusion. Cain’s character transmitted to his descendants, the GIANTS, the fallen ones of Genesis Chapter 6. After the flood, the Cain syndrome and character was manifested in Ham, and then in Canaan. From the curse of Cain to the curse of Canaan, God’s record clearly reveals the heart of man. And he said, Cursed [be] Canaan; a servant of servants shall he be unto his brethren. (Genesis 9:25)
There is still much more about brass and iron.
And I will break the pride of your power; and I will make your heaven as iron, and your earth as brass: (Leviticus 26:19)
For he hath broken the gates of brass, and cut the bars of iron in sunder. (Psalm 107:16)
I will go before thee, and make the crooked places straight: I will break in pieces the gates of brass, and cut in sunder the bars of iron: (Isaiah 45:2)
Because I knew that thou [art] obstinate, and thy neck [is] an iron sinew, and thy brow brass; (Isaiah 48:4)
They [are] all grievous revolters, walking with slanders: [they are] brass and iron; they [are] all corrupters. (Jeremiah 6:28) ◆ The End of Side Note: Brass and Iron.

Back to the adversary and the coat of mail . . . .

—–Two Worlds—–
Two Mountains Separated by a Valley

Chapter 17 of the 1st book of Samuel is saturated with spiritual examples, and tangible evidences of two worlds: the UNSEEN and the SEEN. Two different worlds: the ethereal and the material. Yet these two different worlds share common concepts, and unimaginable parallels and similarities that at times they appear to merge as one through the masterful use of words and phrases by the Great Wordsmith, the Holy Spirit of God; for instance, the third (3) verse of Chapter 17 we see two worlds through the word mountain and we see a division between these two worlds thru the phrase valley between them.

And the Philistines stood on a mountain on the one side, and Israel stood on a mountain on the other side: and there was a valley between them. (1st Samuel 17:3)

The spiritual concept of two mountains and a valley between them is found in the New Testament through the disclosure of life after death in the description of the rich man and the poor beggar named Lazarus. (Luke 16:19 – 31) It is in verse 26 that we see the valley between two mountains . . . a great gulf fixed. Note: between us and you describe TWO DIFFERENT WORLDS . . . the SEEN and the UNSEEN.

And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence. (Luke 16:26)

Haters of God and antisemites are most probably NOT reading this article, however, for those who can neither define a woman, nor define Israel, I suggest you read Revelation Chapter 12. The twelfth Chapter of the book of the Revelation of Jesus Christ could be considered a companion to this verse (1st Samuel 17:5), Satan/Lucifer on a mountain and Israel on the other mountain with a vast valley of separation between them. These two different mountains and the valley of separation are framed by words to represent two different worlds, two different time frames, two concepts, yet one battle, the same battle within each world, and the same battle within the two different frames of time . . . BEFORE time began and after time began. Also the enemy or adversary is also disclosed as representing the tangible (the Philistines of a specific time frame during the age of the first king of Israel (David), who was anointed with a horn of oil) and the ethereal adversary Lucifer who warred against the King of heaven (Daniel 4:34, 37) and continued in Satan (the fallen disgraced Lucifer) warring against God’s tangible chosen nation of Israel. The battle of the spiritual realm and the battle in the tangible world brought together in one verse, 1st Samuel 17:3. Now, try to tell me that the Bible is boring! YOU’RE BORING!

—–The Adversary and his son Unveiled —–

And there went out a champion out of the camp of the Philistines, named Goliath, of Gath, whose height was six cubits and a span. (1st Samuel 17:4) Then a champion out of the camp of the Philistines, appeared by the name of Goliath, of Gath. Goliath’s name has a threefold meaning: ‘exiled,’ ‘stripped,’ and ‘captive,’ and Gath means ‘a winepress.’ Here is an interesting biblical fact, the name of Goliath is recorded SIX (6) times in Scripture (1st Samuel 17:4, 23; 21:9; 22:10; 2nd Samiel 21:19; 1st Chronicles 20:5).
Names, times, places, dates, numbers are ALL important in Scripture because All scripture [is] given by inspiration of God, and [is] profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: (2nd Timothy 3:16) ALL Scripture . . . ALL . . . ALL is given by inspiration of God. Every name, all times, every place, all dates and every number IS SCRIPTURE given by inspiration of God. Now . . . and therefore . . . and because . . . and since . . . all Scripture is for our understanding of the knowledge of God and for the growth of every child of God let us take advantage of what God has given to us and slowly chew on the goodness of God’s word to our souls and spirits. Let us digest the immensity of God’s greatness through His gift of FAITH, GRACE and TRUTH of the word of God.
We are hopefully going to SEE our adversary UNVEILED through Goliath of Gath. And there went out a champion out of the camp of the Philistines, named Goliath, of Gath, whose height was six cubits and a span. (1st Samuel 17:4) Let us use Goliath’s name as a springboard to uncover the true identity of the entity hiding under the cloak and coat covering of the champion out of the camp of the Philistines.
The Holy Spirit of God deliberately and precisely sets two different concepts before us. Here again, notice . . . TWO DIFFERENT concepts, two different worlds, two different battles and two different results but yet one war.
First, let’s examine the UNSEEN world, the world without a time frame, a world of a realm, a kingdom with a KING . . . the King of heaven, the Lord Jesus Christ through the meaning of the name of Goliath, ‘exiled,’ ‘stripped,’ and ‘captive.’
Lucifer, the spiritual father of Goliath, (John 8:44) was also  ‘stripped,’ ‘exiled’ and made ‘captive.Stripped of his power as the ‘anointed cherub’ of God in the holy realm of God. Stripped of his position as ‘covering cherub.’ Charged with folly and exiled from the holy realm of God’s government and cast down to the earth and made captive to his own sin, Lucifer no longer had the authority nor the high position of serving in the holy sanctuaries of God. Lucifer and his angels were charged with the sin of FOLLY. How do we know that the charge against Lucifer was the sin of FOLLY? Behold, he put no trust in his servants; and his angels he charged with folly, (Job 4:18). What does Scripture say about FOLLY? Folly is DECEIT. Folly is WICKEDNESS, and it is FOOLISHNESS and MADNESS.

The wisdom of the prudent [is] to understand his way: but the folly of fools [is] deceit. (Proverbs 14:8)
I applied mine heart to know, and to search, and to seek out wisdom, and the reason [of things], and to know the wickedness of folly, even of foolishness [and] madness: (Ecclesiastes 7:25)

The SOVEREIGN JUDGE of ALL things charged Lucifer with a great sin against God. The sin of deceit, wickedness, foolishness and madness are not light crimes against God. As those in the last days sin against God, so also as Lucifer had sinned against his Creator, forgetting that he (Lucifer) was created with limitations and a built in ‘dead man’s switch.’ Knowing that angels were created as entities unable to die, they never imagined that God was able to terminate them by other means outside of death. And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet [are], and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever. (Revelation 20:10)
Rebellious, unrepentant man also has followed a fallacy concerning death, it is the fallacy of eternal sleep. Man believes that he will never face JUDGMENT because he will sleep a sleep of nothingness, an eternal sleep. There is no such thing in Scripture. At death (purgatory is a con game scheme to keep the marks returning to the treasury) there are only TWO TRUTHS: ETERNAL LIFE OR ETERNAL JUDGMENT.
Although Lucifer was full of wisdom, (Thus saith the Lord GOD; Thou sealest up the sum, full of wisdom, and perfect in beauty. Ezekiel 28:12b), wisdom was not his strong suit. (Sometimes famous personalities succumb to their own P.R. (Public Relations Press Releases.) Lucifer’s wisdom was limited within the range of created angels, for even the holy angels of God desire to look into the spiritual things of God performed by the Lord Jesus Christ for His saints on earth.

Unto whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto us they did minister the things, which are now reported unto you by them that have preached the gospel unto you with the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven; which things the angels desire to look into. (1st Peter 1:12)

Lucifer was full of wisdom, but wisdom without the TRUE knowledge and understanding of God is stained with FOLLY. (And all the earth sought to Solomon, to hear his wisdom, which God had put in his heart.1st Kings 10:24) Look at how Solomon ended his days with a soiled legacy and a shattered kingdom.

And Solomon did evil in the sight of the LORD, and went not fully after the LORD, as [did] David his father. (1st Kings 11:6)
And the LORD was angry with Solomon, because his heart was turned from the LORD God of Israel, which had appeared unto him twice, (1st Kings 11:9)
Wherefore the LORD said unto Solomon, Forasmuch as this is done of thee, and thou hast not kept my covenant and my statutes, which I have commanded thee, I will surely rend the kingdom from thee, and will give it to thy servant. (1st Kings 11:11)
Notwithstanding in thy days I will not do it for David thy father’s sake: but I will rend it out of the hand of thy son. (1st Kings 11:12)
Howbeit I will not rend away all the kingdom; but will give one tribe to thy son for David my servant’s sake, and for Jerusalem’s sake which I have chosen. (1st Kings 11:13)

God does not remove spiritual gifts, but he allows those who abuse His gifts to feel the consequences of their foolish actions. For the gifts and calling of God [are] without repentance. (Romans 11:29) 2nd Timothy Chapter 3, verse 1 – 5 discloses God’s thoughts on what entails the FOLLY of mankind in the last days. This FOLLY can be compared to the FOLLY of the rogue angels under the leadership of the originator of FOLLY, Lucifer. As you read the following verses consider Lucifer as the one who loved himself, he was covetous, boisterous, proud, untruthful, unholy, a traitor, high-minded, having a form of godliness, but Lucifer denied the power of His Creator God.

This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. (2nd Timothy 3:1)
For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, (2nd Timothy 3:2)
Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, (2nd Timothy 3:3)
Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; (2nd Timothy 3:4)
Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. (2nd Timothy 3:5)
For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts, (2nd Timothy 3:6)
Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. (2nd Timothy 3:7)
Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith. (2nd Timothy 3:8)
But they shall proceed no further: for their folly shall be manifest unto all men, as theirs also was. (2nd Timothy 3:9)

The following references have been specifically selected to add to the meaning of the name of Goliath, and its connection to his father, Lucifer. . . . ‘stripped,’ ‘exiled’ and ‘captive.’ Psalm 68:18, refers to the Lord Jesus Christ, Thou hast ascended on high, thou hast led captivity captive: thou hast received gifts for men; yea, for the rebellious also, that the LORD God might dwell among them. The phrase thou hast led captivity captive is weighted with layers of revelations. However, for the theme of this article we will only investigate the theme of led captivity captive as it relates to Lucifer/Satan and Goliath. The Lord Jesus CAPTURED sin, death and the devil. That which enslaved man, trapped man, and placed mankind in bondage to sin, death and the devil himself became CAPTURED, trapped and in bondage to the Lord of glory, the Lord Jesus Christ.

How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! (Isaiah 14:12)
Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit. (Isaiah 14:15)
By the multitude of thy merchandise they have filled the midst of thee with violence, and thou hast sinned: therefore I will cast thee as profane out of the mountain of God: and I will destroy thee, O covering cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire. (Ezekiel 28:16)
Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty, thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness: I will cast thee to the ground, I will lay thee before kings, that they may behold thee. (Ezekiel 28:17)
Thou hast defiled thy sanctuaries by the multitude of thine iniquities, by the iniquity of thy traffick; therefore will I bring forth a fire from the midst of thee, it shall devour thee, and I will bring thee to ashes upon the earth in the sight of all them that behold thee. (Ezekiel 28:18)
And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven. (Luke 10:18)
Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged. (John 16:11)
And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it. (Colossians 2:15)
For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast [them] down to hell, and delivered [them] into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment; (2nd Peter 2:4)
And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day. (Jude 1:6)
And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels, (Revelation 12:7)
And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven. (Revelation 12:8)
And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. (Revelation 12:9)
And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years, (Revelation 20:2)
And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet [are], and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever. (Revelation 20:10)

—–Armed with a Coat of Mail —–
Weighted with Brass and the Judgment of God
and the
Miracle Arrows

And he had an helmet of brass upon his head, and he was armed with a coat of mail; and the weight of the coat was five thousand shekels of brass. (1st Samuel 17:5)

Man places all his hopes in a body that has no ability to achieve his hopes.

Goliath, the son of Satan, was totally clothed by brass. He was heavily weighted down, consequently his own armor became his weakness. Not only was the JUDGMENT of God weighing him down, but he was so confident in the strength of his gigantic sized body that his legs and his shoulders could endure such weight that he failed to understand that what he thought was his strength actually was his weakness, militarily and physically. I know absolutely nothing about military tactics, but this one thing I do know that to be militarily successful, one has to travel lightly and move and strike quickly. A warrior can be laden down with body armor, but he must be able to also move with lightning speed while being burdened with weaponry. That was one thing that Goliath could not do. Quickness and agility were not on his mind, nor did it add to his strength. There was also another area of Goliath’s defensive armor that he did not consider. He covered his strengths but could not cover his weaknesses because he never realized that he had weaknesses. Man is so predictable. Time and experience cannot affect those void of the Spirit of God. As Goliath relied on his monstrous physical size, so also mankind relies on the physical SEEN world without any consideration of the UNSEEN world, the Supernatural Spiritual world.

Man draws all his strength from an empty shell.

Man places all his hopes in a body that has no ability to achieve his hopes.

And David put his hand in his bag, and took thence a stone, and slang it, and smote the Philistine in his forehead, that the stone sunk into his forehead; and he fell upon his face to the earth. (1st Samuel 17:49)
So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and with a stone, and smote the Philistine, and slew him; but there was no sword in the hand of David. (1st Samuel 17:50)

This battle was won by God. His hand directed the stone, and it was by His hand that it struck the most vital part of Goliath’s body. (We are witnesses of miracles, some miracles we note as a miracle and others we ignore. I’m thinking of the miracle that we saw at Butler, PA, the miracle of the bullet that missed President Trump’s brain by less than a meter and ripped the top of his ear.) There were other miracles in Scripture about an arrow and the hand of God perfectly placing an arrow into the precise location.
First, in 1st Kings 22:34, 37 it was Ahab, the husband of Jezebel and the father of Athaliah, who was slain by a certain man drew a bow at a venture . . . between the joints of the harness.

And a certain man drew a bow at a venture, and smote the king of Israel between the joints of the harness: wherefore he said unto the driver of his chariot, Turn thine hand, and carry me out of the host; for I am wounded. (1st Kings 22:34)
So the king died, and was brought to Samaria; and they buried the king in Samaria. (1st Kings 22:37)

Then in the second miraculous shot we have the son of Ahab (Jehoram) in another battle after the death of Ahab, and ANOTHER perfectly placed arrows BUT this shot was taken from behind the target, and the arrow went out at his heart.

And Jehu drew a bow with his full strength, and smote Jehoram between his arms, and the arrow went out at his heart, and he sank down in his chariot. (2nd Kings 9:24)

Back to the miracle of the stone to Goliath’s forehead . . .
The forehead is the outward visible covering that protects the control center of mankind: the brain. This organ is the most complex organ in the human body, and no one moves, speaks, emotes, acts, or thinks without the control of this complex organ that we call the brain. And yet, God simply says the forehead because what is behind the forehead is open and visible to God. Man only sees that which is outward, but God sees the inward: what is behind the forehead the things that control man?
We will end this article although there is much more that can be written about the coat of mail and Goliath. Why should I have all the fun? Consider our study verse of 1st Samuel 17:5 and go further on your own . . . ask the Holy Spirit of God to lead the way. Go on, scaredy-cat . . .

And [he had] an helmet of brass upon his head, and he [was] armed with a coat of mail; and the weight of the coat [was] five thousand shekels of brass. (1st Samuel 17:5)
~
Part 6 will center on 1st Samuel 17:38.
And Saul armed David with his armour, and he put an helmet of brass upon his head; also he armed him with a coat of mail.
