The POWER of the GODHEAD
REVEALED THROUGH HIS NAMES
Now to the children of God in this PRESENT DAY: as God has hovered over the centuries and millenniums, today there is a name given among men that is ABOVE ALL NAMES, and it is the name of Jesus. To this name, God subscribes His love and salvation to ALL who believe. One day, every knee shall bow to Jesus Christ, of those in heaven, and of those on the earth, and even the captives UNDER the earth. That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; (Philippines 2:10) And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. (Philippines 2:11)
In Psalm 23, verse 3, we have a wonderful revelation of God. This verse begins with He restoreth my soul, he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness. Notice that the soul HAS TO BE RESTORED before anyone can walk in the paths of righteousness. As we saw in 1st Corinthians Chapter 1, we are made wisdom and righteousness in the Lord Jesus Christ. This verse ends with the plurality of His name, for His name’s sake. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Name’s sake is mentioned nineteen times in the Old Testament and eleven times in the New Testament. Do you think that God is trying to tell us something about the multiplicity of His name. However, the last name that we see in Scripture in the book of the Revelation of Jesus Christ is, I, Jesus. The name of Jesus encompasses the complete GODHEAD. You need to look up or study the phrase name’s sake in Scripture, it will reveal much to you about the Person and the actions of The Almighty God.
The first mention of name’s sake is in 1st Samuel 12:22. It is interesting that God witnesses through numbers to His people that He will not forsake them for His great name’s sake. For the LORD will not forsake his people for his great name’s sake: because it hath pleased the LORD to make you his people. The last mention of the phrase name’s sake is in Revelation 2:3, And hast borne, and hast patience, and for my name’s sake hast laboured, and hast not fainted. The Lord was speaking to the church at Ephesus and to the overcomer IN Ephesus that they had borne the hatred of the world, and with patience they had fulfilled the command of the gospel of His name’s sake. Again, let me emphasize, as we look in the gospel of Matthew, the Lord gave His disciples a prophecy of how their lives would proceed, And ye shall be hated of all men for my name’s sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved. (Matthew 10:22) In the 1st century of Church history, the whip and the lash of Satan were against those who labored in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Again, the Lord prophesied of what life would be in service to Him and for His name’s sake after He was parted from them. Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name’s sake. (Matthew 24:9) Ye shall be hated of all nations for my name’s sake. This theme of hatred is carried through the gospels of Mark and Luke and John. Also, one of the provisions that God relates to Paul was that he would be shown great things, however, also Paul would suffer for my name’s sake. For I will shew him how great things he must suffer for my name’s sake. (Acts 9:16) This theme of suffering, rejection and hatred for the children of God, the sons of God, has not diminished in our present age and in our present corrupt world.
As Israel was delivered from Pharaoh and from Egypt and in the light of eternity, we, the children of God have been delivered from sin and death and from the works of the devil. As Israel was not and is not accepted by the world as they went forth in the name of Jehovah, so from Ephesus to today, the children of God are NOT accepted by the nations of the world. God parted our Red Sea in the blood of His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. He has sealed all those who have walked by FAITH, both in the Old Testament and in the New Testament in His precious blood. He defeated ALL our enemies, and opened the door of glory to us that we may enter in. Everything that a servant of The Almighty does SHOULD BE for His name’s sake. It is the name of Jesus that shatters sin and death. It is the name of Jesus that destroys ALL the works of the devil. In THIS NAME, JESUS is the path of salvation, the path of God’s righteousness.
But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: (John 1:12)
Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. (John 1:13)
As the children of Israel looked back at the Red Sea, they experienced the realization of their salvation and thus, they began a NEW JOURNEY with a NEW NAME and that name was and is JEHOVAH.
As we, the children of God, have been given NEW LIFE in the Lord Jesus Christ, we have begun our spiritual journey with the name of JESUS upon us. He has given us a heart of FAITH; in this name JESUS is The Almighty God. For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. (Isaiah 9:6) In these FIVE titles in Isaiah 9:6 we have the God of Peace with the God of the everlasting covenant, and this everlasting covenant is fulfilled in the BLOOD of the Lord Jesus Christ.
● But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building; (Hebrews 9:11)
Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us. (Hebrews 9:12)
For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh: (Hebrews 9:13)
How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? (Hebrews 9:14)
And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance. (Hebrews 9:15)
● For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us: (Hebrews 9:24)
Nor yet that he should offer himself often, as the high priest entereth into the holy place every year with blood of others; (Hebrews 9:25)
For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world: but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself. (Hebrews 9:26)
FAITH is the footsteps of the heart in belief of the Person of Jesus Christ.
● But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. (Hebrews 11:6)
● But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; (Romans 10:8)
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. (Romans 10:9)
For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. (Romans 10:10)
For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. (Romans 10:11)
For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. (Romans 10:12)
For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. (Romans 10:13)
How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? (Romans 10:14)
And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things! (Romans 10:15)
But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report? (Romans 10:16)
So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. (Romans 10:17)
But I say, Have they not heard? Yes verily, their sound went into all the earth, and their words unto the ends of the world. (Romans 10:18)
But I say, Did not Israel know? First Moses saith, I will provoke you to jealousy by them that are no people, and by a foolish nation I will anger you. (Romans 10:19)
But Esaias is very bold, and saith, I was found of them that sought me not; I was made manifest unto them that asked not after me. (Romans 10:20)
But to Israel he saith, All day long I have stretched forth my hands unto a disobedient and gainsaying people. (Romans 10:21)
In verse 20 of Chapter 10 of the book of Romans, the Lord proclaimed, I was found of them that sought me not. This identifies God’s movement upon the hearts, souls and spirits of mankind. It reveals the truth that when Abram was in Ur of Chaldees he was NOT looking for God. It was GOD who was looking for Abram. Also, in the book of Acts, Chapter 7, verse 2, it was THE GOD OF GLORY who appeared to our father Abraham. And he said, Men, brethren, and fathers, hearken; The God of glory appeared unto our father Abraham, when he was in Mesopotamia, before he dwelt in Charran. In verse 20 of Romans 10 we have the very LAST words, I was made manifest, that means HE APPEARED unto them who asked not after me . . . I was made manifest unto them that asked not after me. It is a marvelous work of the Spirit of God to connect OUR journey of FAITH to Abraham’s journey of FAITH. How God made HIMSELF KNOWN UNTO US when we were not looking for Him and how God manifested HIMSELF to our heart, soul and spirit while we were NOT asking after Him. Too many times people build their religious experience on one or two verses, and are ignorant of the rest of Scripture. The word of God is a GREAT HOUSE of words and thoughts sent down to us by the Holy Spirit of God to magnify THE GOD OF GLORY, THE LORD JESUS CHRIST. All the building blocks that make up this GREAT HOUSE has to be placed in their proper order in the mind, in the heart, in the soul and in the spirit of man. Our salvation took a GREAT WORK of God upon the cross of Calvary, and IN our NEW BIRTH, He begins leading us as little children in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake. He reveals the mystery of the work of the Spirit of God in our NEW BIRTH. As the mighty wind parted the Red Sea, so the wind of the Spirit came upon us and gave us a NEW BIRTH, a NEW LIFE and a NEW DESTINY.
● Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. (John 3:7)
The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit. (John 3:8)
● As thou knowest not what is the way of the spirit, nor how the bones do grow in the womb of her that is with child: even so thou knowest not the works of God who maketh all. (Ecclesiastes 11:5)
After the Lord Jesus explained the NEW BIRTH and that it was the ONLY WAY to see the kingdom of God and to enter into that kingdom, Nicodemus replied, How can these things be? The world today still asks this same question, How can these things be?
The answer rests in Matthew 22:29. Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God. (Matthew 22:29) It is heaven’s glory in that it is the Lord Jesus Himself who witnesses to the soul, spirit and the heart. In John Chapter 1, it is those who RECEIVE HIM, and in Hebrews 11, they have to RECEIVE Him by FAITH. These are the steps in the new birth and to becoming the sons of God, then, WE ARE SET on our journey of FAITH, to the city of our God.
